CBD FAQ

We get asked frequent questions about cannabidiol (CBD) so we decided to put together a list of CBD FAQs for those of you who want to learn more about this cannabinoid, its properties and positive effects.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a chemical compound that’s found in the cannabis plant. There are multiple species of cannabis that naturally contain CBD.

Cannabis has been used medicinally for centuries, as a sleep aid, a pain and nausea reducer, to relieve anxiety and other mood problems. In the mid-1960s, scientists identified the first cannabinoid. Since then, scientists have gone on to identify more than 80 individual cannabinoids and continue to investigate them for their potential symptom-relieving and disease-fighting abilities.

Brain - Anti-Anxiety, Anti-Depressant, Antioxidant &  Neuroprotective

Anxiety and depression refer to some of the common mental health disorders which can have devastating impacts on health and well-being.
As showed by the world health organization, unhappiness is the single greatest supporter of powerlessness around the globe, while strain issues are situated sixth. Apprehension and unhappiness are ordinarily treated with pharmaceutical meds, which can cause different responses including lethargy, fomentation, a resting issue, sexual brokenness and headache.
Also, pharmaceuticals like benzodiazepines can be addictive and may incite substance misuse. CBD oil has been used as a treatment for both melancholy and uneasiness, driving various who live with these diffuses to end up enthused about this ordinary approach.
In one examination, 24 people with social anxiety issue got either 600 mg of CBD or a phony treatment before an open talking test. The social affair that got the CBD had basically less anxiety, scholarly handicap and trouble in their talk execution, stood out from the phony treatment gathering.
CBD oil has even been used to safely treat a resting issue and apprehension in kids with post-unpleasant weight issue. CBD has in like manner showed stimulant like effects in a couple of animal ponders. These qualities are associated with CBD’s ability to catch up on the mind’s receptors for serotonin, a neurotransmitter that controls perspective and social lead.

Eyes - Vasorelaxent For Glaucoma

There are cannabinoid receptors in the eye area. In a ground-breaking Finnish study on glaucoma conducted in 2002 and published in the journal Pharmacology & Therapeutics, researcher Tomi Järvinena and his team discovered that the eye area has cannabinoid receptors, making this intricately complicated area of the body also a part of the all-encompassing endocannabiniod system (which helps to balance and regulate all other body systems). In the study, smoking cannabis directly was found to lower intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients, but “the discovery of ocular cannabinoid receptors implied an explanation for the induction of hypotension by topical cannabinoid applications.”

Heart - Anti-Inflammatory, Atherosclerosis & Anti-Ischemic

Recent research has linked CBD with several benefits for the heart and circulatory system, including the ability to lower high blood pressure. High blood pressure is linked to higher risks of a number of health conditions, including stroke, heart attack and metabolic syndrome. Studies indicate that CBD may be a natural and effective treatment for high blood pressure. Researchers have suggested that the stress- and anxiety-reducing properties of CBD are responsible for its ability to help lower blood pressure. For example, one study found that treatment with CBD reduced oxidative stress and prevented heart damage in diabetic mice with heart disease

Bones - Stimulates Strength, Growth, Strengthens Bones Affected by Osteoporosis

Medical research has discovered that humans have cannabinoid receptors in their bone cells. The most relevant of these receptors in health terms are CB1, CB2, and GPR 55. Further research has found that cannabinoid receptors are vital for regulating bone metabolism. The CB2 receptor is expressed in osteoclasts (also known as bone reabsorbing cells) and osteoblasts (also known as bone-forming cells). The balance between the two is critical to the process of optimal bone health maintenance.
Despite CB2’s importance, studies on animals deficient in the CB1 receptor showed that they have reduced bone formation and increased bone resorption. CB2-deficient animals show age dependent low bone density along with bone loss and associated fractures.
CBD is an ‘agonist’ of the CB1 and especially the CB2 receptors. An agonist is defined as a “substance which initiates a physiological response when combined with a receptor.” In any case, CB2 agonists like CBD are capable of modulating the functions of the receptors, increase osteoblast count and inhibit osteoclast precursor proliferation. In layman’s terms, CBD can help increase bone formation, reduce bone loss and aid the body in its mission to maintain normal bone mass.

Skin - Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that affects more than 9% of the population.
Based on recent scientific studies, CBD oil may help treat acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce sebum production.
One test-tube study found that CBD oil prevented sebaceous gland cells from secreting excessive sebum, exerted anti-inflammatory actions and prevented the activation of “pro-acne” agents like inflammatory cytokines.
Another study had similar findings, concluding that CBD may be an efficient and safe way to treat acne, thanks in part to its remarkable anti-inflammatory qualities.
Though these results are promising, human studies exploring the effects of CBD on acne are needed.
CBD may have beneficial effects on acne due to its anti-inflammatory qualities and its ability to control the overproduction of sebum from the sebaceous glands.

Sleep - Insomia

The calming and sleep promoting benefits of cannabidiol.

CBD has the ability to reduce anxiety, which can be helpful in reducing sleep difficulties and improving sleep quality. CBD may increase overall sleep amounts, and improve insomnia, according to research. CBD has been shown to reduce insomnia in people who suffer from chronic pain.

In smaller doses, CBD stimulates alertness and reduces daytime sleepiness, which is important for daytime performance and for the strength and consistency of the sleep-wake cycle.

CBD may help reduces REM behavior disorder in people with Parkinson’s disease. REM behavior disorder is a condition that causes people to act out physically during dreaming and REM sleep. Typically, during REM, the body is largely paralyzed, a state known as REM atonia. This immobilization keeps sleepers from reacting physically to their dreams. In REM behavior disorder, this paralysis doesn’t occur, leaving people free to move—which can lead to disruptive sleep and to injuring themselves or their sleeping partners. Cannabis may also work to reduce pain and improve sleep quality in people with Parkinson’s disease.

CBD may help improve REM sleep abnormalities in people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Can Alleviate Cancer-Related Symptoms

CBD may help reduce symptoms related to cancer and side effects related to cancer treatment, like nausea, vomiting and pain.
One study looked at the effects of CBD and THC in 177 people with cancer-related pain who did not experience relief from pain medication.
Those treated with an extract containing both compounds experienced a significant reduction in pain compared to those who received only THC extract.
CBD may also help reduce chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, which are among the most common chemotherapy-related side effects for those with cancer.
Though there are drugs that help with these distressing symptoms, they are sometimes ineffective, leading some people to seek alternatives.
A study of 16 people undergoing chemotherapy found that a one-to-one combination of CBD and THC administered via mouth spray reduced chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting better than standard treatment alone.
